What is accessibility design?

Designing 'with accessibility in mind', or more simply be totally inclusive when designing your communications.

I will always endeavour to design solutions that are accessible to the widest possible audiences, and built to the highest standard of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) possible within the scope of a project.

For this reason you will hear me talk about avoiding certain colour combinations, limiting line length of copy, or ensuring certain content is duplicated in another format.

As I've mentioned, it’s not just about people with the obvious disabilities either. The great misconception is that we're talking about a minority.

To make sure your communications are inclusive to the widest possible audience we need to consider many other issues the audience might be dealing with or may encounter, such as:
Icon relating to people with visual impairments

Icon representing the deaf community

Do your forms comply?
Generally it's about making your content relevant and understandable, avoiding jargon, simple language and presenting your content in the best way for your users to consume it.

If you are not thinking about these issues or situations when creating your communications or content, then you are missing out on, not a minority population, but a large portion of potential audience.

My aim is to produce an inclusive solution that is informative for all and allows them to access and interact with your content to the fullest.
